raises gets distributed to agencies?
Well, by volunteers just like you!
Each year volunteers from the Jackson County area are responsible for reviewing
member agencies and their programs, assessing the needs in the community
and allocating funds donated by people in our community.
United Way volunteers become experts on the needs in our community and the programs that address them.
Member Agencies:
American Red Cross – Your American Red Cross helps people with temporary shelter and other assistance after disasters; teaches people to save lives and be prepared; connects military families with loved ones during emergencies; links international families separated by conflict or disaster. Bittersweet Homestead, Inc. – Training and employment for persons with mental retardation/developmental disabilities in agricultural related enterprises.
Denison Ball Association – Denison Ball Assn. provides a summer ball program for kids ages 4-15 years of age.
Girl Scouts of NE Kansas and NW Missouri – Girl Scouts’ mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make a world a better place. Today, that mission asserts its relevance more than ever before. With a focus on things like financial literacy; science, math, engineering, and technology; environmental awareness; community outreach and education; health and wellness; and leadership and self-esteem, Girl Scouts is poised to shape the next generation of Girl Scouts into the leaders of tomorrow.
Heart of Jackson Humane Society – Lost/found pet service; hay for pet houses; food for pets; KSD News; library books; rehoming dogs/cats for owners; spay/neuter assistance and promos; shelter for displaced dogs.
Holton Youth Ball Association – HYBA offers an organized program for youth in our community between the ages of 4-19. It is run 100% by volunteers. HYBA tries to provide a safe and fun atmosphere to promote their development into young adults in our community.
Friends of Hospice, Inc. – We the volunteer branch of the HCH Hospice organization provide supportive care for terminally ill patients and their families. We also provide nutritional supplements as well as comfort supplies, such as comfort baths, Depends, and other needed supplies and also help with co-pay for meds when it is needed. Our Hospice provide grief support for the families who have lost a loved one.
Jackson County Resource Center, Inc. – Adult education, work skills training, supported employment, residential skills, community inclusion for adults affected by developmental disabilities. General public transportation for all residents of Jackson County.
Jayhawk Area Council Boy Scouts of America – Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturing, learning for Life/Exploring.
NEK-CAP, Inc. – NEK-CAP, Inc. provides case management, Head Start (0-5), Employment Related Services, Emergency Food/Medical, Utilities/Rent Assistance, Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, Tenant Based Rental Assistance, FEMA, Weatherization, Information/Referral.
Netawaka Athletic Club – is a nonprofit organization consisting of 30 plus members. Our main goal is to provide our local youth and their families a chance to participate in summer fun activities. We currently provide boys baseball and girls softball programs. We also help put on an annual 4th of July celebration for the Netawaka community.
Royal Valley Recreation Association – Provide leadership to our communities youth by providing an opportunity for kids to play organized baseball & softball in a safe and effectively managed program. We are also extending for fall of 2009 a basketball program in conjunction with the use of USD 337 gym.
Salvation Army – We offer a wide range of services to those residents and transients with a need for assistance. We provide rent, utilities, food, clothing, prescriptions, vision, and other emergency crisis needs.
Soldier Community Ball Association – Baseball & softball programs for community youth ages 4-14. Playground & recreational facilities for the Soldier and Jackson County community.
United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas – UCP provides financial aid toward the purchase of durable medical equipment and other kinds of assistive technology. UCP also supports an independent living center and a specialized wheelchair “posture” seating clinic located in Wichita. Kansans with various disabilities (not just CP) are welcome to apply.
Whiting Activities – We would like to thank the United Way for their participation in the Whiting Activities Club. They have helped us in the following ways: Boys baseball, Girls softball, backboards for basketball gyms. The United Way has also helped us keep our ball field among the best in the county. Without the United Way, many of our improvements will not have been possible.
YMCA of Topeka – The YMCA of Topeka provides wholesome value driven programs. The youth programs serving the needs of Jackson County include: Youth Athletics provides social recreation and health and fitness, and delinquency prevention. Sponsored Membership and Youth and Family Development provides clients with social recreational programs, financial assistance, and youth skill development programs. Summer Day Camps provide youth a safe and supervised childcare experience that provides the child a setting for learning and growing and having fun. Safe Visit is a program that provides supervised visits and exchanges for children of separated parents who need a safe environment. Teen Program provides teens with program that builds self-confidence and life skills, conflict resolution, etiquette and leadership skills as well as community service and fun.
